Yet fear can break, as community makes. Community can grow, sparking us all. Make I to us, it's now all gas, no brakes. Go as a group we win, a win not small. Small leads to big, to huge, to some new world. Education can thrive, knowing the light. Make us to we, it’s now our flag unfurled. Unfurling flag, a group we shine so bright. Brighter we shine, through the dark we pierce. Piercing, splitting, gaping, ripping at fear. We fear no more, we shine with hope so fierce. Fiercely, boldly, bravely, rising so clear. Clear as community makes us stand bold. Standing boldly as one, we can withhold.
What’s it about
This poem, as community makes, is part 3 in the collection of education related poems stemming from the recent SCOTUS decision to allow the Trump regime to continue the “reduction in force” and eventual closure of the Department of Education. All without any Legislative approval. Seems Moses Mike Johnson handing over the Speaker’s gavel to Donald Trump truly was the end of this role in “governing”. Now we live based on the Shadow Docket rulings and emergency applications to the Supreme Court. That means little to no review and definitely no oversight. That really needs to change and the destruction of the DoE is only the start.
This isn’t meant to benefit out children. If you look at Republican controlled states, most are lessening or removing child labor laws and protections, all while removing education guarantees and federal minimum standards. It doesn’t matter if the laws remain on the books, if no one is willing to enforce or even been there to advocate for our kids. Once the DoE is gone, States will do away with public education as much as possible, turning us backwards and making it so only rich, preferably white, male children can attend school. They’ve been saying it for years and this is a coordinated effort. This poem is a continuation in my Sonnet collection dissenting.
