Downwards we fall, towards depths deep below. Bringing the night, so long a shadow. Democracy dies in darkness they say. Coming, they try to take it away. Dragging us down into depths we don’t know. Snagging the lights, so none may bestow. Democracy lies in darkness that way. Disappearing the free, making them pay. Downwards we fall, towards depths deep below. Digging discord, so tensions may sow. Democracy cries in that dark and dismay. Whispering please, save me today. Dragging us all from depths we now know. Shedding the lies of ones deep below. Democracy tries, finding a way. Rippling free, ready to stay. Upwards we go towards light as we grow. Spreading the truths of ones that we know. Democracy rises and harkens the day. Come, try and take it away.

Nick, I am 76 years old on the 20th. This is not the America I grew up in!! Please continue the resistance because our lives depend on it!
I will not be silent!! I want to leave this earth feeling good about America!
Great poetry!
