Itβs why I work for local government, proudly, in a senior management position:
To serve my community, to support & mentor my staff to be the best public servants that they can be, to support our elected official and city execs (but also to hold them to account), to work with likeminded individuals from other municipalities, and to push back against & then reengage with community members who believe βitβs all just politics & bureaucracy, wasting taxpayer moneyβ.
Itβs been the most gratifying experience, these past 8 years; more fulfilling even than my similar work at our local prestigious public university, where my impact was more focused, and where covert politics both administrative & academic presented far more resistance to positive change.
Digging these, Nick.
Act local, and it can spread global.
Hell yeah it can friendβletβs keep up the purposeful engagement, so we can rebuild a civic foundation!
