Wow! Congratulations! That is so awesome!

I hope one day I make it there, too. ❤️

You’ve got this Lisa—this is just the start for us all! I read your last piece on the contraceptives and I think you’re hitting a really important point and a huge anti-life attempt masked as “pro-life” bullshit.

Keep speaking truth!

That really ticked me off - especially when we are willing to spend more money to destroy them rather than sell them at a loss to another organization. They have no good argument at that point.

Conservatives have never seen a good reason to take care of people with abundant melanin or non-Christians (or poor people, for that matter). The fact this would benefit women made it all the more important for them to destroy it.

Now I am sitting here wondering if part of my attitude about this is growing up in 70s fundamentalist Christianity. A girl was responsible for any male’s lust, whether they were her peer or old enough to be her grandfather. Even SA, the question was, “what did you do to deserve it?” I absolutely hate being a woman. Not in a trans way. In a societal expectation/implicit misogyny I have been expected to live with way.

"A girl was responsible for any male’s lust, whether they were her peer or old enough to be her grandfather."

This is something I'm so glad my parents never taught me - I feel lucky to have grown up with great examples who did not condone that type of behavior. I also know it's something I'm working hard to teach my children. It's always about consent and respect. If you don't have one, you never have the other. It doesn't matter which one - they go together and are incredibly important.

I hope we - you, me, our friends - can change this and make it so you and no other woman need to hate being a woman. It's something that we can fix too. It won't be easy, but we can do it.

I agree. I hope that we are fortunate and get major wins in midterms, because the Speaker is a proponent of “covenant marriage,” with stricter terms for divorce, and the background of the whole movement wants to swap Old Testament law for the current criminal code. In the Old Testament, a woman was forced to marry her rapist. 😐

In their version of marriage, women don’t get consent. Or their own money, even if they earn it.

The Southern Baptist Church I attended with my ex had some pretty backwards teachings. You could not divorce for abuse. The first thing you would be asked was why you were behaving in a way that made your husband have to punish you in the first place. If you were afraid, you were allowed to temporarily separate, but never divorce, because they only approved of that for unrepentant adultery. If he said he was sorry, you had to counsel and keep him. 🤪
